Instagram Switches Profile, DM Icon Positions for Easy Access to MessagesAugust 6, 2018 0 By Mr Kings
Instagram is testing a minor change that could actually improve navigation in the app.
Intagram, in the latest Instagram beta app (build number 22.214.171.124.10), swapped the profile icon in the navigation bar at the bottom for direct messaging. And the profile icon, has now replaced the direct messaging icon.
This new feature could appear odd in the beginning, however, with regular use of the feature it is clear that the company is making efforts to make DM easily accessible on its platform. This implies that the company is now primarily shifting its attention more to messaging which could prove beneficial for the company in a long run.
How The New Icon Works
Users will now have to tap the paper plane on the bottom right of the new navigation bar before they can access their messages. The left swipe gesture that formerly open the messaging page is no longer active.
Also to view the active profile, you have to tap the new icon on the top right, and long-press it to switch between accounts.
Looking at it from a UI angle, its really a wise decision as users visits the messaging section more often than the profile page.
